Gaming Emerging Markets w/ Tim Seymour

It doesn’t take much to get Tim Seymour all jazzed up about overseas markets, but we have to admit this data is pretty impressive.

First world stocks as measured by the MSCI All-Country World Index (ACWI) just put in their best quarter since the benchmark was first compiled in 1988.

And emerging markets were the main driver. MSCI's sub-index for the sector known as the EEM was up over 30% for the quarter, also a record high. This is around twice the gain of the S&P 500 index of the same period.

And Asia shares have been among the stars, with the MSCI Asia-Pacific ex-Japan Index (EEP) known as the EEP  up 33.7 percent.

Not too shabby. But there’s more.

Investors ended the quarter clearly committed to future gains in higher-yielding assets. Reuters asset allocation polls for June showed cash reserves at a 23-month low, a sign that money was being put to work. EPFR data shows that about $130 billion has exited safe-haven money market funds in the year to date.

Considering all these results and trends, how should you position yourself?

I’m excited about auto production in the emerging markets, explains Tim Seymour. And OECD auto production generates 20% of global steel demand. As a result I like steel for the second half and I’d play it with Posco [PKX  Loading...      ()   ] , Gerdau [GGB  Loading...      ()   ], or Companhia Siderurgica Nacional  [SID  Loading...      ()   ].

Also I like playing emerging markets with handset and cellphone makers. And one of my favorite plays in the space is Vivo Participacoes  [VIV  Loading...      ()   ], Seymour adds.
